The Pink Castle

One of my things on my bucket list to do before I left Scotland was visit Craigievar Castle, the famous pink castle in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. This beautiful castle is said to be the inspiration for Walt Disney’s Cinderella Castle. Finished in 1626, this castle is one of best preserved castles in Scotland, catching the sun just as it did hundreds of years ago.

Because we had a car for the occasion, we mapped out a route that included as many cairns and standing stones as possible. We stopped by a church cemetery nestles beside a set of standing stones and ate lunch right in the middle. Perhaps the spookiest, most spirit filled meal I’ve had.

And finally, the pink castle itself. Just as enchanting and whimsical as expected.

On the way home, we spotted some duck shaped castle ruins and had to stop to explore. After climbing through a few back yards and lots of brambles, we arrived at the ruins.

Altogether a perfect, pink adventure.
